When it’s time to turn your ideas into action items you can create tasks instantly from content in your Whimsical docs or boards, and add them to your projects directly.
Note: This article explains how to create tasks in your projects based on content from your docs and boards - to learn about using tasks directly in Whimsical Docs and Boards, check out this article.
In docs, it’s as simple as highlighting the content (text, image, or even another linked file) that you’d like to create a task from. Then right click, and Create task:
In boards, right click any object (like a flowchart shape, or wireframe element) and select Create task:
This will create a new task.
If the task was created from text in a doc, that’ll be in the description, and AI will generate a title.
If the task was created from a board, there’ll be an embed focused on that object. If the object contained text AI will generate a title:
Then you can fill out the rest of the info for the task including status, tags, assignee, and any additional info needed in the description:
Note: At this point you can also add the task to an existing project, or create a new project. - If the doc or board that you’re creating the task from, is within a project, this project will be pre-selected here.
The task will then be visible on the project you’ve selected and contain a backlink to the doc or board it came from:
A comment will also be added to the doc or board, linking to the new task - so your whole team knows what’s going on, and can follow the links to the right place:
You can create tasks from directly from Slack with our Slack integration. If you have yet to install the Whimsical app for Slack, check out this article.
With the app installed, creating a task is simple. 👇
Click the three dots menu on any message in Slack, and choose Create task:
Tip: If you haven’t used the app before, this option may be under More message shortcuts. 👌
Then enter the task title and description and select the project to add the task to:
And that’s it! The task will be created in Whimsical, and you’ll see a confirmation message in Slack:
