Integrating Whimsical and Front

Our Front integration streamlines your workflow by linking customer conversations to Whimsical tasks and allows you to quickly search, link, or create tasks directly from Front. When a task is completed in Whimsical, the conversation reopens automatically in Front so you can keep your customers in the loop.

The Front integration is available to customers on our paid plans.

Setting up the integrationLink to this section

Here’s how to get the Front integration set up:

  1. Head over to the Front’s App store and install the Whimsical plugin from there. This will add the Whimsical plugin to your Front sidebar.
  2. Open the Whimsical plugin in your Front sidebar, log in, and choose the workspace you want to connect.

If you’ve logged into the wrong account or selected the wrong workspace, simply log out and repeat the setup steps.

Creating new tasksLink to this section

You can now start creating new Whimsical tasks directly from Front conversations by clicking the + Create task button in the plugin. Once linked, task details will appear in Front’s sidebar, and a link to the conversation will automatically show up in the Whimsical task.

When creating a task from Front, you can choose the project it belongs to, set its status, and add tags. The description field also supports Markdown formatting, so you can easily quote customers, highlight important details, or use other formatting options to keep everything organized and easy to read.

You won't be able to change the project, status or tags once the conversation is linked from within Front, but you can navigate to Whimsical to do that.

Linking existing tasksLink to this section

If a task already exists in Whimsical, you can link a Front conversation to the existing task. Use the search bar in the Whimsical plugin to enter keywords from the task title or description. This will allow you to find and link the relevant Whimsical task to the Front conversation.

You won't be able to change the project, status or tags of existing tasks from within Front, but you can navigate to Whimsical to do that.

Re-opening conversationsLink to this section

All Front conversations that are linked to Whimsical tasks will automatically reopen when the status of a linked Whimsical task changes to “Canceled” “Done” or “Duplicate”, making it easy to follow-up with your customers directly from Front.

Linking multiple tasksLink to this section

When customers submit messages that contain several bugs or feature requests at once, you have the flexibility to link as many tasks as needed - whether they're new or existing ones and you'll be able to see all the linked tasks in the Front sidebar.

Unlinking tasksLink to this section

To remove a conversation linked to a Whimsical task by mistake, click Unlink icon next to the linked task in the plugin. This removes the connection in both places - Whimsical and Front. You can’t unlink Front conversations from within Whimsical tasks.
